The Ishtar gate is probably one of the most famous pieces of architecture and mosaic ever. The lapis bricks and the detailed paintings covered the entire gate, making it a landmark in the ancient city of Babylon.

King Darius of Persia used Babylon as a template when he built his city and used the winged bull as part of his decoration. Designs like this one are often mistaken as Darius' own invention, but we must recognize the ingenuity of the original creator--Nebuchadnezzar.
