The inspiration for this tapestry was a series of engravings of the months of the year. The engravings were part of a collection at Vaux le Vicomete Castle from 1656 to 1661.

This tapestry illustrates the month of July, with its bold golden background and bouquet of vibrant Summer blooms. The main colors in this tapestry are many: gold, golden brown, scarlet, pink, rose, marigold, cream, deep sage green, and a jewel-like blue shade.
