The rich decorated their homes with scenes like this to give them a break from the ordinary and civilized lives they led. The original artist was Joseph Fuchs, and he created this piece in 1861. This scene is but one from the piece entitled, Eden.
The familiar Verdure style landscape behind the men was common during this time period in France. This piece consists mostly of sage and moss greens, a muted grey blue, golden brown, and a gorgeous brick red.
