Although probably considered rather tame to modern audiences, this tapestry was considered rather scandalous in the late 1700's.The famous painter, Doyen, received an order to paint a courier's mistress on a swing being pushed by a Bishop. Doyen's career as a painter was tainted by this request, so he turned it down. Fragonard, who was famous at the time for exactly this type of work, took the request and created The Swing, or L'Escarpolette. The young lord watches his lady as she swings.
This beautiful tapestry is woven in France from a cotton and viscose blend. It comes backed with a lining and a tunnel for easy hanging.
L'Escarpolette comes in three sizes to choose from: H 54 x W 35 inches, H 78 x W 50 inches, and H 106 x W 70 inches.
