This tapestry is based off of an original by Andrea del Sarto from the XVIII Century.Woven in the Medici workrooms in Florence, Italy, this piece was hailed as the ultimate depiction of Justice in human form. This piece is very straightforward, but full of symbolism.
Notice that Justice carries not only her standard scales, but she is also pictured with a sword. Not only was she considered to be the law of the land, but she was also in charge of executing her sentences. Also, Justice is not pictured as blind--she sees all points of view and all possible recourse.
This wall hanging is woven in Belgium from a viscose, polysester and acryllic blend. It comes backed with lining and a tunnel for easy hanging.
Justice measures 67 x 55 inches.
