Caress, the tapestry with the interesting title is the reproduction of a painting/artwork of Mallett.Hand woven in North America, this wonderful modern art tapestry depicts a picture of three black women with traditional dresses- gowns with monochrome and bandanas with matching color.
The three women have not only similarities in certain aspects but dissimilarities too. The apparent resemblances in them lie in their costumes, in their complexion, being three of them sharing the same race- African. But the differences prevalent in them are their postures and the objects they hold in their hands. The woman in the front holds a baby whereas one of the two women behind her is holding a bunch of flowers while the other is holding a lamp. But the striking resemblance they have in them is perhaps their caress, their nurturing of their objects in hands, namely, the baby, the flower bouquet and the lamp. The three of them seem to have motherly care for their things they are carrying, and hence the title ‘Caress’.
This tapestry that is lined with tunnel for easy hanging is going to bring in your room a riot of colors being hand woven in rich hues of red, green and yellow. Still there is a sense of darkness in the tapestry, the light and shadow created by the lamp playing their respective roles.
This wall hanging measures H 42 x W 53 inches.
