It dates back to the mid 1400s. A noble lady is flanked by two suitors and only one is the fortunate recipient of the prize that will declare him the winner of her affections - a single rose. The other stands neglected and crestfallen. One can almost see a story come alive in this true-to-life tapestry. It brings a smile to the lips as a salute to the unchanging nature of human emotions down the ages. It will embellish any wall and allow it to tell a tale.
The three figures in the foreground of the tapestry are set against pretty floral panels in the background, which bring out the tableau being depicted.
The woven art work of this tapestry woven in Belgium is clean and well executed. “Baille Des Roses” measures 30 X 36 inches. It is made of 70% cotton and 30% viscose. The tapestry has been lined with a tunnel for easy hanging.
