This is a contemporary tapestry woven in North America from a painting of Kamelhair.Aptly named Aviary, it shows three feathered friends in playful flight. The bright colors of their plumage make the tapestry come alive. The movement of the birds is captured very well in the tapestry and one can almost see and hear the flapping and fluttering of wings as well as the tiny chirps and twitters as they call out to each other. The leafy ferns around the birds suggest natural greenery and each leaf have been executed with fine attention to detail. The brushstrokes on the birds, especially the wings and tail have also been depicted with care.
The entire scene of the tapestry with the three birds is framed in a rich background of red and gold with a thick golden tassel for stronger delineation and added color. It feels as if a window has been opened and the rich brocade curtains parted, to allow us a glimpse into the natural world outside.
The Aviary I measures 53 X 38 inches. The tapestry is lined with a tunnel for easy hanging.
